Doctor in Odisha Serves While Ill, Earns Praise

Bhubaneswar: Dr. Brajaraj Kar, a doctor at Ramgiri Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Gajapati district, Odisha, has earned widespread appreciation from the state government for his remarkable commitment to serving patients despite suffering from health complications.

Dr. Kar, currently battling infection-related issues, chose not to take leave and continued to attend to patients at the PHC. He even provided medical prescriptions and administered treatment while receiving saline and injections himself.

“I am the only doctor at this facility, and around 15,000 people rely on this PHC for healthcare services. If I took leave, many patients would face difficulties, so I decided to continue working while undergoing treatment,” Dr. Kar shared.

The Health and Family Welfare Department of Odisha lauded Dr. Kar’s dedication after a video showing him treating patients while receiving medical care went viral on social media.

Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling spoke with Dr. Kar via videoconference, expressing his admiration and concern. “Dr. Brajaraj Kar has made the Health Department proud with his dedication. He serves as an example to young doctors across the state. I pray to Lord Jagannath for his speedy recovery,” the Health Minister said.
