Dharmasala Mahotsav sees footfall of 5 lakh visitors

JAJPUR, Jan 7:  The week-long Dharmasala Mahotsav, which concluded recently, attracted hundreds of artisans, dancers, singers and poets who kept thousands of visitors spell-bound for hours daily. The festival saw a footfall of approximately five lakh visitors this year.

Besides cultural functions, many handicraft centres of the state also opened their stalls in the festival. Famous Buddhist sites of the district buzzed with cultural activities during the Mahotsav.

The Mahostava site and the Buddhist sites were illuminated with decorative lights. For centuries Dharmasala area has been a pilgrimage centre for Buddhists. In order to promote cultural tourism, some organizations had launched the annual festival in 2007.

The festival includes folk dances, Goti Pua dance, Odishi dance, Ghoda Nacha or Horse Dance, dance drama based on the life of Lord Buddha and photo exhibitions.
