DGP Khurania reviews security plans for Eid, Ram Navami & Hanuman Jayanti in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: With key festivals including Eid-ul-Fitr (March 31), Sri Ram Navami (April 6), Hanuman Jayanti (April 14), and Maha Vishuba Sankranti fast approaching, the Odisha Police are taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of the public during these celebrations.
A high-level review meeting was held at the State Police Headquarters on Friday, chaired by Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, to finalize the security arrangements for the upcoming festivities.
During the virtual meeting, DGP Khurania directed senior police officials to ensure a smooth and well-coordinated observance of these festivals. He emphasized the importance of robust security measures, constant vigilance, and preemptive actions to prevent any untoward incidents. Notably, the DGP stressed the need for enhanced monitoring of social media platforms to curb the spread of rumors and misleading information. To this end, he advised round-the-clock patrolling by cyber cells across various districts.
A key part of the security plan involves an increase in surveillance, including the installation of CCTV cameras, with AI-enabled cameras being deployed in sensitive areas. The Odisha Police will also engage local communities by forming peace committees and holding meetings with community representatives to foster harmony and cooperation. Additionally, intensified police patrolling and strict security checks at sensitive locations, including the monitoring of processions, will be implemented.
Special training workshops will be organized by the State Crime Branch to prepare police officers for effective deployment during the festivals. The police force will also focus on special security measures for foot processions and bike rallies, while identifying and taking action against habitual offenders and those spreading rumours.
Khurania underscored the importance of maintaining a high level of preparedness to respond to any unexpected situations during the celebrations.
Acknowledging the possibility of rising temperatures during the festivals, DGP Khurania also instructed officials to take necessary precautions to ensure the health and well-being of both the public and police personnel on duty.
