DGCA clears third airport at Rourkela

Bhubaneswar, Jan 8: The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given the regulatory approval for the third airport in Rourkela.

The DGCA issued the licence for operation of commercial flights from the Rourkela airport, saying that it will pave opportunities to connect the Steel City with rest of the nation.

                At presently, Odisha has Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar and Veer Surendra Sai Airport at Jharsuguda.

Tthe Civil Aviation Department had reviewed the preparedness of the airstrip at Rourkela and had declared the airport ready for operation of commercial flights under the ‘Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik’ (UDAN) scheme.

As the airstrip is owned by the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), an MoU was signed with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for operation and management of the airstrip in May last year.
