Debasis Nayak Announces to Contest as Independent

Bhubaneswar: Former Bari MLA and BJP leader Debasis Nayak declared that he will contest from the Bari assembly seat as an independent candidate.

He made this announcement on his social media handle, saying, “I have decided to contest the Assembly elections from Bari as an Independent candidate. People of Bari are my strength and I want to serve them.” It seems Nayak is dissatisfied over not being given a BJP ticket to contest from Bari. The BJP has chosen Umesh Jena for the Bari assembly constituency.

Nayak as a BJD candidate won from Bari in 2009 and 2014 elections on the BJD ticket. In 2019, the BJD nominated Sunanda Das for this seat. Nayak resigned from the BJD and joined the BJP with the hope of getting the saffron party ticket to contest from the Bari seat. But he did not get it.
