Dasamula Modak of Lord Jagannath Stolen

Puri: In a bizarre incident, the ‘Dasamula Modak’ brought to be offered to Lord Jagannath and the sibling deities at Puri’s Srimandira has reportedly been stolen.

According to reports, Haladhar Das Mohapatra, the Badagrahi of Lord Balabhadra, has raised concerns about the missing 70 mruti of Dasamula Modak from the Amunia Modak of 313 mruti. He claimed that the sanctity of the modak was compromised (mara heigala) due to the theft. Mohapatra questioned how the modak, having lost its sanctity, was offered to the deities. He has demanded action in this matter.

Reportedly, on Anavasara Ekadashi, Kaviraj Sevaks bring the Dasamula Modak and deposit it in the Garada office of Srimandira under the commander’s supervision. However, during the ‘manati’ process, it was observed that 70 mruti of Modak were missing from the total 313 mruti Amunia, rendering the modak defective.

Mohapatra questioned the offering of this defective modak to the deities and has sought an investigation into the matter, demanding action against those responsible.
