Cyclone Fengal Hits Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Disrupts Life
Heavy rainfall lashed parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, and neighbouring Puducherry as Cyclone Fengal (pronounced Feinjal) approached the coastline on Saturday. The cyclone, expected to make landfall between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram near Puducherry, brought widespread disruption, with flight operations at Chennai airport and local train services severely impacted.
Chennai airport operations were halted and will remain closed until 7 pm, as announced by airport authorities on X.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for seven coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, warning of extremely heavy rainfall as the cyclone approaches. Wind speeds are expected to reach up to 90 kmph when the cyclone hits the Puducherry coast.
