CRUT to Introduce Double-Decker Electric Buses in Odisha
Bhubaneswar: The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) is gearing up to roll out double-decker electric buses in Odisha, inviting private organizations to participate in the initiative. A notification has been issued by CRUT seeking tenders for the supply, operation, and maintenance of these eco-friendly buses.
According to the notification, CRUT plans to sign agreements with private operators to manage the buses for an initial period of 10 years, with the option to extend the contract by an additional two years based on performance.
In the first phase, five double-decker electric buses will be deployed across the Khurda, Puri, and Cuttack districts. These buses, equipped with air conditioning and charging facilities, are intended to enhance tourism within the state while catering to other routes as determined by CRUT.
“The Request for Proposal (RFP) invites bids for the manufacture and supply of five double-decker AC fully built electric buses with chargers, along with comprehensive maintenance for a 10+2 year period,” stated the CRUT notification.
The buses will remain under the ownership of the selected operators throughout the contract period. Operators will be required to procure buses from established manufacturers adhering to the specifications outlined by CRUT. All buses will be registered in the operator’s name during the contract period.
CRUT further noted that the agreement period could be extended at its discretion based on the performance and condition of the buses. The service areas may also be expanded as CRUT operations grow.
The project is expected to boost sustainable transportation and tourism in Odisha, aligning with the state’s commitment to eco-friendly initiatives.
