Couple Dies in Jumbo Attack

Patnagarh: A man and his wife died following elephant attack in Balangir district of Odisha on Sunday night. The jumbo reportedly attacked them when they were asleep in their house in the Chabiripali village in Khaprakhol Forest Range under Khaprakhol Police Station limits.

The deceased man has been identified as Nilambara Bariha and his wife has been identified as Jasobanti Bariha. As per reports, the tusker attacked the couple yesterday night when they were sleeping inside the house at their paddy field near the village. Accordingly, they were killed.

After this incident, the Forest Department officials from Khaprakhol are making efforts to drive away the elephant. Khaprakhol Forest Ranger informed that the bodies of the man and woman have been brought to Khaprakhol for autopsy. A pal of gloom has descended in the area following death of the couple while the villagers of Chabiripali and adjacent areas are frightened.
