Corporator assures to promote persons with disabilities in sports

Corporator of Ward No.65 in Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Rasmi Ranjan Patasani promised to develop the infrastructure in the Bhagabanpur – Patrapada area for the promotion of sports for the persons with disabilities while giving away the medals and certificates to the participants during the closing ceremony of the 1st State CP Athletics Championship of Odisha organised by Bharati Rath Memorial Academy of Special Human Abilities (BRM-ASHA) at the Bhagabanpur Sports & Cultural Association Ground today.

Sannyas Behera, Under Secretary, SSEPD Department, the Chief Guest of the Opening Ceremony, exhorted the athletes, coaches, officials and parents to take advantage of the provisions of the Khelo India by applying for scholarships to the tune of Rs lakhs for higher training.

Prakash K Rath, Secretary, BRM-ASHA and CP Sports Odisha, while giving his welcome address informed that it is a challenging task to organise such an event for the persons with cerebral palsy because of their condition and lack of support from all concerned.

He, however gave assurance that the movement will grow in the future.

Dr.Anand Prakash, retired scientist and S.K.Parida, Secretary, K9B Residents Welfare Association, guests of honour expressed their happiness at such events being organised by BRM-ASHA and they being witness to such good initiative.

Pradipta Rath, Vice President, BRM-ASHA also expressed his happiness and Arpita Mohapatra, Joint Secretary, BRM-ASHA thanked all concerned for participation and support.

Rajkumar Singh of CP Sports Jharkhand provided on field technical support and expressed satisfaction on the arrangements and the way the championship was conducted. Sasmita Mohapatra, Technical Director, CP Sports Odisha conducted the programme with the support of the Diploma Trainees of OLS, volunteers of BVMMMRT of Athagarh and IRCS Sahaya of Cuttack.

Suresh Chandra Khuntia, Herbalife Independent Consultant conducted health evaluation of the athletes and coaches on the occasion of World Health Day.
