Congress Urges BJD to Move No-Confidence Motion

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Das on Tuesday called on the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) to move a no-confidence motion against the BJP-led state government, citing its failure to address the growing incidents of violence against women.

Addressing the media, Das accused the state government of being indifferent to the rising atrocities against women and failing to uphold its responsibilities. He urged the BJD, as the principal opposition party with 51 seats in the Assembly, to take initiative and move the motion.

“We are ready to support the motion,” Das said. “If the government fails in its duties, it is the Opposition’s role to act. The BJD must rise to the occasion and support the people, especially when women’s safety is at stake.”

Das asserted that the Congress would back the motion wholeheartedly, stressing that the issue transcends party politics and concerns public welfare, particularly women’s rights and dignity.

In response, BJD vice president Debi Mishra said the decision to bring a no-confidence motion would be taken collectively by the party’s legislature wing. He reiterated that the BJD, under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik, has consistently fought for women’s rights and condemned any form of violence against them.

“The party will decide its course of action after the official notification for the Assembly session is issued,” Mishra added.
