Congress activists tries to storm into Naveen Niwas at midnight
Bhubaneswar: Around 30 Congress activists tried to storm into Naveen Niwas, the official residence of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in the midnight. Congress activists scuffled with police at Sishu Bhawan square while trying to move towards the Naveen Niwas as a mark of protest against the Puri gang-rape incident. Alleging that the Odisha government has failed to put a check on the incidents of rape and other atrocities against women and girls. All the activist were arrested by police.
According to the report a young girl was allegedly abducted and gang-raped in the government quarters near Jhadeswari Club in Puri on Monday. The survivor has lodged a complaint with Kumbharpada police stating that four persons arrived at the Nimapara bus stand when she was waiting for a bus to her native village in Kakatpur. One of them, claiming to be a police officer, asked to drop her home and took her to Puri where she was gang-raped. The victim, however, managed to get hold of an identity card which purportedly belongs to a police constable identified as Jitendra Sethi, it was learned. Following to complaint, police have detained the accused constable for further interrogation into the matter. However, the identity of the other three suspects, in this case, is yet to be ascertained.
