Committed to achieving the ambitious target of Green Odisha: Deputy Chief Minister Singh Deo

Bhubaneswar: Reaffirming the state’s dedication to sustainable development, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture, Farmers Empowerment, and Energy, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, said Odisha is resolutely committed to achieving the ambitious target of a Green Odisha in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Clean and Green India.
Chairing a high-level meeting on Wednesday at the Lokseva Bhavan, Singh Deo emphasized the government’s readiness to extend all necessary support and facilities to drive forward the green energy revolution in the state. The meeting was marked by a detailed presentation from Apollo Green Energy Limited, showcasing its current and proposed solar power initiatives.
Apollo Green Energy is presently executing a 54 MWp solar power project worth Rs 151 crore in Odisha’s Ganjam district under the EPC-Ground Solar mode. The company expressed strong interest in expanding its green footprint across other regions of the state, unveiling a proposal to invest a significant Rs 4,500 crore towards the development of 1,000 MW of green energy projects.
These initiatives are not only expected to enhance the state’s renewable energy capacity but also generate direct and indirect employment for around 3,000 individuals. In a forward-thinking move, the proposed projects will include advanced Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to ensure surplus energy generated is efficiently stored for future use.
Singh Deo lauded the initiative, saying, “Odisha is fully aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision of Clean and Green India. We are committed to ensuring the success of these transformative energy projects and will provide every possible support to realize this goal.”
The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary of the Energy Department Vishal Dev, CMD of OPTCL Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma, MD of GRIDCO Trilochan Panda, CEO of Apollo Green Energy Sanjay Gupta, President Rakesh Gupta, and other senior officials of the Energy Department.
