CM Launches ‘Digital Hundi’ for Online Donations to Shree Jagannath Temple

Bhubaneswar: In a major step toward modernizing temple donations, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday launched the Digital Hundi platform, allowing devotees across India and abroad to offer donations to Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri through secure online channels.
The digital initiative was officially inaugurated at Lok Seva Bhawan (State Secretariat) in Bhubaneswar. Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Majhi said, “Many devotees were facing difficulties in contributing offerings to Lord Jagannath online. With the launch of the Digital Hundi, that challenge has been resolved.”
The platform enables donations via QR codes, which will be made accessible on the official website of Shree Jagannath Temple. In partnership with the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), authorized banks will be permitted to install QR code kiosks around the temple premises. These codes may also be displayed at key public locations in Puri, including ATMs and bank branches, to provide convenient and secure donation points.
“The aim is not just to collect funds but to honour the devotion of lakhs of devotees,” the Chief Minister added. “During occasions like the Rath Yatra, when many devotees are unable to be physically present, the Digital Hundi gives them a way to stay connected spiritually.”
Officials confirmed that the system has been developed with advanced security features to ensure the sanctity and safe processing of all offerings.
Over the last three financial years (2021–22 to 2023–24), Shree Jagannath Temple has received donations worth ₹113.02 crore, reflecting the deep devotional connection that devotees maintain with the temple.
The Digital Hundi is seen as a key step in aligning Odisha’s sacred traditions with the Government of India’s larger vision of a digitally empowered society.
