CM Announces Rs 2L Ex-Gratia for OSRTC Victims

Angul: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has expressed condolences over a tragic road accident involving an Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) bus that claimed two lives and injured over 31 passengers. The accident occurred near Samal police station in Angul district when the bus, traveling from Baripada to Angul, overturned on a winding road.
The state government has announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and pledged to cover all medical expenses for the injured. CM Majhi also directed authorities to provide the best possible treatment to the victims.
The bus, carrying 55-60 passengers, lost control while navigating a sharp turn. According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle was speeding, fully occupied, with additional passengers standing at the front. The accident left two passengers dead, one identified as a resident of Jharkhand, while the identity of the other is yet to be confirmed.
Locals and police responded swiftly, rescuing the injured and transporting them to Godibandha Hospital. Nine critically injured passengers were later shifted to Angul District Hospital for advanced treatment, while six others with moderate injuries are being treated at Talcher Medical. The remaining injured were discharged after receiving primary care.
The Road Transport Office (RTO) and police are investigating the incident, with initial findings pointing to human error as a potential cause. The bus driver fled the scene, and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend him.
