Chimpanzee Julu Dies at Nandankanan
Bhubaneswar: In a saddening incident for the animal lovers, 35-year-old chimpanzee Julu died at the Nandankanan Zoo here today due to old-age related ailment, informed Sanatan Kumar Narayan, the Deputy Director of the Zoo.
The Nandankanan Zoo authorities had brought Julu from the Singapore Zoo on May 16, 1994, when she was barely three and today she died as the oldest chimpanzee of Zoo. The officials made proper arrangement to give a dignified burial to the deceased chimpanzee.
With the birth of a baby chimpanzee on Saturday, the number of the species of great ape (chimpanzee) had increased to eight. However, with the death of Julu today, their total number dropped to seven again.
