Chimpanzee ‘Julu’ Dies at Nandankanan Zoo

Bhubaneswar: The chimpanzee population at Nandankanan Zoological Park has decreased to seven following the death of ‘Julu’, a 36-year-old chimpanzee.

According to zoo officials, Julu had been suffering from age-related ailments and was undergoing treatment at the zoo’s veterinary hospital. Julu was the first chimpanzee to be brought to Nandankanan, arriving from Singapore Zoo on May 16, 1994.

Chimpanzees typically have a lifespan of 31.7 years for males and 38.7 years for females. Located 15 km from Bhubaneswar, Nandankanan is one of India’s premier zoological parks, known for its diverse animal population and conservation efforts.
