Chilika Legislator Thrashed

Bhubaneswar (Reporters Today Bureau): Chilika legislator Prashant Jagdev, who was suspended from ruling Biju Janata Dal last year for anti-party activities, today allegedly ran over BJP workers with his vehicle killing a woman in Banpur of Khordha district.

Besides, two other critically-injured persons have been shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for treatment. As per reports, the MLA was on is way to Banpur in his SUV for election to the post of block chairman post, scheduled to be held today. Since there was rush near Banpur block office for the election, the legislator ploughed his vehicle into the crowd injuring around two dozens of people, including 15 BJP and one BJD workers. While one injured woman was declared dead at a hospital in Banpur, two others were shifted to Bhubaneswar AIIMS.

Anguished over the incident, locals made a murderous attack on the legislator injuring him severely. The mob also vandalized his vehicle. As Jagdev suffered a severe head injury,  he was rushed to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment.  Meanwhile, BJP leader Prithviraj Harichandan has left for the accident site to take stock. “Around 15 BJP workers, a BJD worker and seven police personnel were injured in the incident. A probe has been initiated into the matter,” said Balugaon SDPO.
