CBI Raids 12 Locations in Odisha in Ongoing GDS Recruitment Scam Probe

Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday carried out extensive searches at 12 locations across five districts in Odisha as part of its ongoing investigation into the 2023 Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment scam.

The coordinated operation spanned Bhubaneswar, Kalahandi, Balangir, Sambalpur, and Keonjhar districts, targeting individuals allegedly linked to the scam, including middlemen and persons involved in forging matriculation certificates.

The case was registered by the CBI on May 9, 2023, following a complaint lodged by the Chief Postmaster General, Odisha Circle, Bhubaneswar. The complaint alleged that several candidates secured GDS positions by submitting fake matriculation certificates purportedly issued by the Uttar Pradesh Board and the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).

In a major development, the CBI filed a chargesheet on December 30, 2024, naming 58 accused, including 55 candidates and three middlemen, before the Court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Bhubaneswar.

CBI officials stated that the investigation is ongoing to identify more individuals involved and to trace the masterminds behind the certificate forgery racket. The agency is determined to expose the full scale of the scam and bring all guilty parties to justice.
