BJP MPs Urge Union Minister for Airport Development in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs from Odisha met Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu today, urging for the establishment of new airports and the development of existing ones in the state.

Led by Sambalpur MP and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the delegation submitted a memorandum requesting key steps to boost Odisha’s civil aviation sector. The MPs called for the construction of a new terminal at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar, the initiation of the second-phase development of Veer Surendra Sai Airport at Jharsuguda, and the establishment of a new airport at Puri. They also advocated for the development of Charbatia airstrip in Cuttack into a full-fledged airport.

Further, the MPs requested the expansion of Jeypore and Rourkela airstrips, and the development of the Tusura airstrip in Balangir. To enhance regional connectivity, they pressed for the inclusion of 10 additional locations under the UDAN scheme, including Barisal (Dhenkanal), Hirakud (Sambalpur), Rangeilunda (Ganjam), Paradeep (Jagatsinghpur), Utkela (Kalahandi), Kalinganagar (Jajpur), Raisuan (Keonjhar), Padmapur (Bargarh), and Rasgovindpur and Rairangpur (Mayurbhanj).
