BJP and Congress Set to Appoint New Presidents in Odisha
Bhubaneswar: Both major national political parties in Odisha, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress, are set to appoint new presidents soon.
BJP’s state in-charge, Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, confirmed that the party will elect a new state president in January 2025 to succeed Manmohan Samal. He mentioned that the organizational elections at the booth and Mandal levels have already begun, followed by elections for district presidents. The state president’s election is expected to take place in the first week of January.
Meanwhile, Congress is also poised to appoint a new president for the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC). Senior Congress MLA and leader of the legislature party, Rama Chandra Kadam, revealed that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) is working on selecting a strong and capable leader for the role. Two party observers, Meenakshi Natarajan and Charan Das Mahant, have already submitted their reports after holding discussions with state MPs, MLAs, and senior party leaders.
Kadam criticized the BJP government for changing names of schemes instead of bringing about significant development, calling the current administration a “name-changer” rather than a “game-changer.”
