BJD Condemns Tata Steel’s Treatment of Displaced People

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has condemned the alleged mistreatment of displaced individuals by Tata Steel security personnel at the Tata Steel-run NINL facility in Kalinga Nagar, Jajpur.

The displaced individuals, who had been relocated to make way for the Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex, staged a protest outside the facility, demanding the employment they were promised in exchange for giving up their lands. BJD leader Pritiranjan Gharai addressed the media, stating, “The displaced people were promised jobs at the NINL factory, but these promises remain unfulfilled.”

The protest escalated on Tuesday night when Tata Steel security was reportedly ordered to lathi-charge the protesters. According to witnesses, both men and women were beaten, resulting in critical injuries to two individuals and one woman, who were subsequently hospitalized. The BJD has criticized the incident, calling it an act of brutality and humiliation against the displaced people.
