Birendra Lakra to lead India team at Hero Men’s Asia Cu

Bhubaneswar, May 14

Ace defender Birendra Lakra will lead the Indian Men’s Hockey team at the Hero Men’s Asia Cup scheduled at Indonesian Capital Jakarta from May 23.

Lakra will replace Rupinder Pal Singh as Captain of the 20-member squad as Rupinder has been ruled out of the tournament after sustaining wrist injury during training.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has congratulated Birendra on being selected to lead the Indian Men’s Hockey Team.

While forward SV Sunil has been named Vice-Captain.

Nilam Sanjeep Xess, also from Odisha, will play inplace of Rupinder in the tournament.

Two other Odia players in the team are Dipsan Tirkey and Abhisek Lakra.
