Bhubaneswar Police Approves 25 Sites for Green Crackers, Enforces Diwali Safety Rules

- Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar issued an advisory on Monday for Diwali 2024, authorizing firecracker sales at 25 designated locations with approval from the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), as announced by DCP Pinak Mishra.
In compliance with safety regulations, the sale and bursting of hazardous firecrackers are prohibited, allowing only green crackers in line with Supreme Court directives. So far, 465 applications for cracker sale licenses have been received, with 200 approved. The remaining applicants must meet specific conditions to secure their licenses.
According to the advisory, each vendor may store up to 300 kg of firecrackers. Shops must be spaced at least three meters apart, with a 50-meter clearance in front. Additionally, vendors are required to cover their shops with tin, and equip them with fire extinguishers, wet sacks, and sand-filled drums. A special team from the Commissionerate Police will monitor compliance.
Shopkeepers must also adhere to fire service department and BMC guidelines. DCP Mishra warned that violations will be met with legal action.
