Bhubaneswar: Link Building of Airport Collapses

(Adarsh Rout) Bhubaneswar:  Buildings and flyovers of the smart city seems to be insecure these days. After the two times fly over collapse incident of Bomikhal, now it’s the time for airport building in state capital.

A part of the Biju Patnaik International Airport collapsed late last night where several persons are said to have been trapped. The link building joining the old and new terminal of the airport collapsed causing massive damage to the airport.

While two injured persons were rushed to the Capital Hospital immediately, the CISF personnel and other persons present on the premises rushed to rescue the trapped persons. Sources said an ambulance was called in to shift the injured persons to the hospital. Fire personnel were also pressed into service to expedite rescue efforts. Till the filing of the report no death was confirmed by the airport authorities.

However, according to media reports, one person succumbed to injuries after battling for life for two hours. The perished has been identified as Antaryami Guru, a resident of Baramba in Cuttack.  He was engaged as the labourer in the construction work. Naba Kishore Swain, an injured persont, is undergoing treatment at the Capital hospital.

All the above incidents, like two times Bomikhal flyover and now airport building, were caused by low grade work of the contractors. The state government must have to take strict action against the culprits.
