Bhitarkanika National Park to remain closed for 3 months from May 1

Rajnagar: The Bhitarkanika National Park will remain closed from May 1. It will remain closed for the next three months for the breeding of Baula crocodiles.
The crocodiles during the breeding season remain ferocious. To avoid any mishap, the visiting of tourists during breeding season remains closed. Therefore Bhitarkanika National Park will remain closed from May 1 to July 31, for three months.
During these three months, boat rowing in the national park will not be done. This is because any disturbance in the water will disrupt the process of mating. After the mating, the female crocodiles lay eggs. The female crocodiles remain vigilant and stand guard till the eggs hatch in the nests after the eggs were laid.
After the egg laying, the female crocodiles turn ferocious and resort to attacks if they are provoked. Thus Bhitarkanika will remain closed during this breeding period. The villagers near the Bhitarkanika national park have also been cautioned to not disturb them, informed Rajnagar Di
The National Park will be reopened for visitors and tourists from August 1.
