Bharat Bandh on July 9 as 25 Crore Workers Strike Against Anti-Labour Policies

Bhubaneswar: Bharat Bandh will be observed on July 9 that is tomorrow. Over 25 crore workers, who work in government sectors like banking, postal services, mining, construction and transport, will participate in a nationwide general strike or Bharat Bandh.
According to reports, major disruptions in public services are expected. Although schools and private offices are likely to remain open. A coalition of 10 central trade unions and allied labourers and farmers’ organizations have called for the strike to protest against the “anti-worker, anti-farmer and corporate-biased” policies of the central government.
Further the reason why the workers are protesting are, the introduction of four new labour codes that reduce rights such as collective bargaining and strikes.
Rising unemployment and inflation, cuts in health, education and civic amenities, hiring retirees instead of providing jobs for the youth, no labour conference in 10 years, attempts to disenfranchise migrant workers and crackdown on protests using the Public Safety Bill.
These are few reasons why the strike is being called. Further detailed reports awaited.
