Bhadrak Nurse Accuses Doctor of Harassment, Attempts Suicide; Probe Ordered

Bhadrak: A female staff nurse at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Bhadrak has accused a doctor of sexual and mental harassment, prompting district authorities to launch an inquiry after she reportedly attempted suicide.
The nurse, identified as Santoshini Dalei, is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital after she allegedly tried to end her life by jumping in front of a train. She was rescued in time and admitted to the hospital, where she is said to be in a stable condition.
In her statement, Dalei alleged that Dr. Amulya Das, a doctor at Bhadrak DHH, had sexually harassed her and blackmailed her by repeatedly sending inappropriate photos. She also claimed that two other staff nurses at the hospital had been mentally harassing her.
Bhadrak Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr. Sudhansu Sekhar Bal confirmed receiving the complaint and said that Dr. Das has denied the allegations during a preliminary inquiry. Dr. Bal visited Dalei at the hospital and recorded her grievances.
To ensure transparency and fairness in the investigation, the CDMO announced that a special committee will be constituted to probe the allegations. The committee will include a female doctor and is expected to conduct an impartial and comprehensive inquiry.
“If the allegations are found to be true, strict action will be taken against those involved,” Dr. Bal assured.
Following the incident, the Bhadrak District Collector has directed the CDMO to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a detailed report at the earliest.
