Calcutta HC puts stay on arrest warrant issued against Mohammad Shami 

The Calcutta High Court has upheld a stay on the arrest warrant issued by the Sessions Judge, Alipore against Indian cricketer Mohammad Shami in a domestic violence case. The single judge bench cited a Supreme Court ruling and ruled that the Sessions Judge’s order did not need to be altered while the revision hearing remained pending.

As per the information given ,The pacer’s wife Hasin Jahan had filed a written complaint against Shami with the Jadavpur police station under Section 498A and Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code in March, 2028. Then a charge sheet was filed against Shami. The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Alipore then issued arrest warrants against the Team India pacer and his relatives on August 29, 2019.

According to the petitioner, cricketer Mohammad Shami is involved in extramarital affairs with multiple women, and when she objected to his behavior, he physically assaulted her on February 23, 2018. As a result, the petitioner filed a written complaint with the Jadavpur police station in March 2018.

The high court said that the order issuing an arrest warrant against Shami instead of summons was against the rule of law.
