Bandh hits life in undivided Koraput Dist over HC Bench

Jeypore, Dec 18: A 12-hour bandh call given in the undivided Koraput district by the joint action committee demanding a permanent High Court bench crippled life on Tuesday.

All trading and business establishments, educational institutions and government offices remained closed while vehicles stayed off the road in Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri districts during the bandh.

However, emergency services was kept out of the purview of the bandh.

The joint action committee, in consultation with the Bar Associations in these four districts, has given the 12-hour bandh, which began at 6 am, to protest the alleged apathy of the State government and the Centre in fulfilling the long-standing demands of the people of the undivided Koraput district.

The bandh is supported by the BJP, Congress and CPI and several social organisations and civil societies.

Demanding a permanent HC bench, lawyers of Jeypore Bar Association had also resorted to 15-day cease work earlier.
