Balasore Student Suicide Case: Judicial Custody of Suspended HOD Extended by 14 Days

Balasore: A local court on Thursday extended the judicial custody of Samir Sahu, the suspended Head of Department (HOD) of Education at Balasore FM Autonomous College, by another 14 days in connection with the high-profile student suicide case.

The order was passed by the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court after Sahu’s initial 14-day custody period came to an end. He had been arrested on charges of abetment to suicide following the death of a female student, a case that has triggered widespread protests and public outrage across the state.

The controversy has intensified demands for strict accountability and justice, with student groups and civil society continuing demonstrations outside the college and district administrative offices.

Meanwhile, the 14-day judicial custody of the college principal, who was also arrested in connection with the case, is set to expire on Sunday. Authorities have not ruled out further legal actions as the investigation continues.

The case remains under intense public scrutiny, with growing pressure on law enforcement and the judiciary to ensure a transparent and swift resolution.
