Bahuda Yatra Begins Early Amid Massive Devotee Turnout in Puri

Puri: The sacred Bahuda Yatra, marking the return journey of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra to the Shree Jagannath Temple, commenced in Puri on Sunday with lakhs of devotees participating in the grand spiritual event.

The pulling of the chariots began at 3 PM, an hour earlier than the scheduled time of 4 PM. By 4:30 PM, all three chariots had rolled out from Sharadhabali, proceeding along the Bada Danda (Grand Road) toward the Singhadwara (Lions’ Gate) of Srimandir

As per tradition, Lord Balabhadra’s chariot led the procession, followed by Devi Subhadra, with Lord Jagannath’s chariot bringing up the rear. The early start of the Yatra was seen by many as a sign of divine blessings, adding to the spiritual energy of the occasion.

Officials and devotees are hopeful that all three chariots will reach the temple gates by 7:30 PM. The Grand Road is filled with enthusiastic devotees, whose chants, drumbeats, and celebrations have created an atmosphere of intense religious fervour.

Security has been tightened across Puri to ensure the smooth conduct of the Yatra, with large contingents of police and administrative staff deployed throughout the city.

The Bahuda Yatra is the return leg of the famous Rath Yatra, and its successful commencement marks another key moment in Puri’s cherished spiritual calendar.
