ASI Found Hanging in Nabarangpur, Probe Launched

Bhubaneswar: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police was found hanging from a tree under mysterious circumstances in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Renu Prasad Patnaik (59), an ASI of Tentulikhunti police station. Patnaik, a resident of Tumbarla village in Papadahandi, had been living at the Tentulikhunti Police Colony.

According to reports, Patnaik traveled to Nabarangpur district headquarters on Monday for official work but did not return. His body was discovered hanging near a canal in Tentulikhunti this afternoon.

Police arrived at the scene after being alerted and seized the body. A formal investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

The body will be sent to Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for postmortem on Wednesday, a police officer confirmed. Initial findings suggest suicide, but a scientific team and sniffer dog will assist in the probe to rule out foul play.
