Annual Bird Census Begins in Chilika

Bhubaneswar: The annual bird census in Chilika lake started today and is scheduled to conclude by January 15. Boating by visitors has been prohibited in view of the bird census. Around 20 teams have been deployed to count both migratory and domestic birds across the Chilika lagoon.

In a technological upgrade, the Forest Department has adopted ‘e-Bird’ mobile application for the counting process. The app is being used to input real-time counting data, which will be accessible to everyone worldwide.

Chilika attracts bird and nature enthusiasts, as millions of feathered guests from foreign countries visit the lake every year to spend winter.
