Angul: 170 kg rare fish netted from Samal Barrage

Talcher: In a remarkable catch, a huge fish weighing 170 kilograms was netted from the lower catchment area of the Bramhani River at the Samal Barrage near Kaniha in the Angul district of Odisha on Saturday.

It has been believed that the massive catch was made possible after floodwaters entered the barrage following the opening of the discharge gates at the Rengali Dam.

The enormity of the fish was evident as four to five people were needed to lift it. This extraordinary catch has generated significant interest among locals and fishing enthusiasts alike.

The catch has sparked excitement among the local fishing community, with many eager to see if more such giant fish will be caught in the region. The Samal Barrage, known for its rich aquatic life, continues to surprise with its hidden treasures.

Earlier this month another big fish had been netted in Boudh district of Odisha. Then, a 25-kilogram Buda fish was caught in the net from the Dhibara River at Ghantapada in Kantamal Block of Boudh district.
