Amit Shah Cancels Odisha Visit After Manmohan Singh’s Death

Bhubaneswar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Odisha, scheduled for December 28, has been cancelled in the wake of the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Jajpur Lok Sabha Member Rabindra Narayan Behera confirmed the cancellation today.

Shah was set to arrive in Bhubaneswar tomorrow evening and attend three programs, including a national party meeting on December 29. However, the nationwide mourning for Dr. Singh, who passed away on Thursday night at the age of 92, has led to the cancellation of his visit.

Political leaders across the country have paid tribute to Dr. Singh, recognizing his significant contributions to India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed that Dr. Singh’s vision and integrity would remain forever etched in India’s history. Amit Shah also honored Dr. Singh, calling him a distinguished economist and statesman who played a key role in shaping India’s modern economic policies.

In respect to the former Prime Minister’s passing, a seven-day mourning period has been declared nationwide, lasting until January 1, 2025, as per a notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs. As part of the mourning, all government programs scheduled for Friday have been cancelled.
