AIIMS Bhubaneswar Leads HIV Awareness and Care

Bhubaneswar: In the last three months, the Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC) at AIIMS Bhubaneswar tested 8,518 individuals for HIV, identifying 31 positive cases. Among them, 27 individuals have been linked to the Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) Centre for treatment, demonstrating the institute’s commitment to enhancing HIV care and management.

As part of World AIDS Day celebrations, AIIMS Bhubaneswar organized an awareness program under the theme “Take the Rights Path: My Health, My Right.” The event featured free HIV testing, voluntary blood donation camps, and distribution of educational materials on HIV/AIDS prevention, focusing on community involvement and awareness.

As one of India’s eight Regional HIV Surveillance Institutes, AIIMS Bhubaneswar leads efforts in combating HIV across Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. This aligns with the national goal of expanding HIV treatment access, with ART coverage now reaching 68% across the country.

The institute’s initiatives underscore its role in advancing HIV diagnosis, treatment, and education in the region.
