Odisha MD Student Found Dead at AIIMS Patna, Family Alleges Foul Play

Bhubaneswar/Patna: In a tragic incident, a 25-year-old postgraduate medical student from Odisha was found dead in his hostel room at AIIMS Patna on Saturday in a suspected case of suicide.
The deceased has been identified as Jadavendra Sahu, son of Upendra Sahu from Gondia block in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district. He was a first-year MD student in Gynaecology and Obstetrics, having enrolled at the institute in January 2025. Sahu was residing in Room No. 515 of Hostel No. 10 on campus.
According to reports, Sahu did not respond to phone calls or open his door on Saturday morning, prompting concern among fellow students and hostel authorities. Upon finding the room locked from the inside, the hostel management alerted local police.
Police personnel broke open the door and found Sahu unconscious on the bed. He was immediately taken to the emergency department, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Sahu may have died by injecting a high dose of anaesthesia, possibly on Friday night. However, a postmortem report is awaited to confirm the exact cause of death.
Following the incident, Sahu’s mother and younger brother rushed to AIIMS Patna. The grieving family, however, has alleged foul play, claiming that Sahu may have been murdered inside the hostel.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter. “All aspects, including the possibility of suicide or foul play, are being examined. The postmortem report will shed more light,” an official said.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the campus and raised concerns over student mental health and safety in medical institutions.
