Bhubaneswar Ranked 9th Among India’s Cleanest Cities in Swachh Survey

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s capital city Bhubaneswar has made a significant leap in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 rankings, securing the 9th position among the top 10 cleanest cities in India in the 3 to 10 lakh population category. This marks a major improvement from its 34th rank in the previous survey.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) was felicitated for this achievement at the Swachh Survekshan Award Ceremony held in New Delhi on Thursday. The award was received by Odisha’s Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das, Urban Development Department Secretary Usha Padhee, and BMC Commissioner Rajesh Pravakar Patil.
In addition to Bhubaneswar, two more urban local bodies from Odisha — Aska and Chikiti NACs in Ganjam district — were honoured at the event. Aska received the Swachh Sehar Award in the 20,000 to 50,000 population category, while Chikiti was awarded in the below 20,000 population category.
Following the recognition, BMC officials expressed gratitude to the citizens of Bhubaneswar for their active participation in keeping the city clean. “This is a proud moment for Odisha as our continued commitment to urban cleanliness earns national recognition,” stated the Odisha government.
The awards reflect growing efforts by the state and its urban bodies to improve sanitation, waste management, and citizen engagement in building a cleaner and healthier urban environment.
