Rogue Elephant Kills Man in Mayurbhanj’s Kashiabeda Village

Baripada: A 60-year-old man was tragically killed in the early hours of Friday after being attacked by a rogue elephant in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. The deceased, Paresh Chandra Giri, was a resident of Kashiabeda village under the Singda section of the Karanjia Forest Range.

According to Forest Department officials, the incident occurred around 1:30 AM while Paresh was asleep in his house. The elephant, which had earlier caused damage to two houses in nearby Indupur village, reportedly entered Kashiabeda and broke into Paresh’s home, trampling him fatally.

Forest personnel from the Singda section, who were already on duty in Indupur attempting to drive away the animal, rushed to the spot after receiving news of the incident. Paresh was immediately rescued and taken to Karanjia Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

A post-mortem examination was carried out, and the body was handed over to his grieving family. The Forest Department has begun the process of disbursing initial compensation to the next of kin and continues to monitor the rogue elephant’s movements in an effort to prevent further attacks.

The incident has raised concerns among villagers about increasing human-wildlife conflict in the region. Forest officials have urged residents to remain alert and report any elephant sightings immediately.
