IMD Issues Sea Warning for Odisha Coast from June 29 to July 1

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning advising fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast between June 29 and July 1, 2025, due to adverse weather conditions.

According to the regional weather office, squally weather with wind speeds ranging from 35 to 45 km/h, gusting up to 55 km/h, is likely to prevail during this period. As a result, sea conditions are expected to be rough to very rough, posing a serious risk to fishing activities and coastal movement.

Fishermen and coastal communities have been strongly advised to avoid venturing into the sea and to remain alert by following updates from the IMD. Authorities have also been alerted to prepare for any emergency response.

The warning comes in the wake of a low-pressure system currently located over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha and West Bengal coasts. The system is expected to move towards north Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh, intensifying rainfall activity in the region.

Under its influence, widespread rainfall is likely across Odisha, with heavy rainfall forecasted for northern parts of the state and neighbouring districts until July 2. The IMD continues to monitor the evolving weather patterns and urges the public to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
