China builds world’s widest underwater roadway tunnel in just 110 days

China is known for its innovation and this time it has stunned the world after it build the world’s widest underwater roadway tunnel in just 110 days. This Herculean task has left everyone stunned.

The widest underwater roadway tunnel is built beneath the Yellow River in Jinan, the capital of Shandong province. It spans for 3.3 kilometer (2-mile) stretch and is 17 meters (55.8 feet) in diameter, which is almost the length of six full traffic lanes. It is located 98 feet below the surface of the Yellow river.

It is built using world’s largest tunnel boring machine- Shanhe. The work of the tunnel was completed with a boring speed of up to 18 meters per day. The tunnel is a two-way tunnel and will feature three lanes in each direction and can accommodate vehicles travelling at a speed of up to 37.2 miles per hour (60 km/h).
