Odisha to Introduce Yoga in Schools, Public Health: CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that the state government is taking concrete steps to integrate yoga into both school curriculums and public health programmes.
Addressing the state-level celebration of IDY at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, the Chief Minister emphasised the government’s commitment to promoting a healthy and self-reliant Odisha. “Workshops are being organised across schools, colleges, and sports centres to raise awareness about yoga. We are committed to including yoga in education and public health systems to build a healthy, efficient, and self-sufficient state,” Majhi said.
As part of the initiative, yoga camps have been set up in all 30 districts of Odisha, covering both urban and rural areas. Thousands of people are taking part in these camps to learn about maintaining a healthy lifestyle through yoga.
Highlighting yoga’s deep roots in Indian culture, the Chief Minister noted that it has long been a part of the country’s tradition. “While yoga has always been integral to India, the Union Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has successfully popularised it on the international stage,” he added.
Majhi also clarified that yoga transcends religious boundaries. “Yoga should not be viewed merely as a form of physical exercise. It is a complete path to harmony of the mind, body, and soul. It belongs to everyone, regardless of religion or belief,” he stated.
The grand event at Kalinga Stadium witnessed participation from around 15,000 people, including ministers, legislators, government officials, and citizens from various walks of life. The programme was organised by the Department of Sports and Youth Services, Government of Odisha.
