Expert Teams Deployed to Tackle Diarrhoea Outbreak in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In response to the diarrhoea outbreak affecting parts of Odisha, the state government has deployed three special joint expert teams to Cuttack, Jajpur, and Bhadrak districts. The move follows directives from Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary Ashwathy S, aiming to intensify containment and prevention measures.
Each team comprises specialists from both the Central and State Governments, including public health officials and experts from the Food Safety Authority of India. These teams have begun their fieldwork, focusing on disease control, patient care, and preventive actions.
In Jajpur, the team includes Dr. Nilakant Mishra, Director of Public Health, and Dr. N. Somalkar from the central government, supported by food safety officials.
In Cuttack, Dr. B. Dwivedi and Dr. S. Mohanty from the central team are working alongside Dr. Pramila Baral, Additional Director of the Health and Family Welfare Department.
In Bhadrak, the deployed experts include Dr. P. Ghosh, Dr. G. Choudhary, and Joint Director Dr. Subhasish Mohanty.
The expert teams are overseeing crucial areas such as purification of drinking water sources, public awareness campaigns on boiling water, patient treatment protocols, and systematic data collection. Their insights and field observations will help guide and support the work of district-level medical teams.
Following their inspections, the teams will engage with the core committees in each district to formulate further strategies to contain the outbreak and prevent future flare-ups.
