ASI Pradeep Kumar Behera in Vigilance Snare

Cuttack: Pradeep Kumar Behera, ASI of Tigiria Police Station has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and taking bribe Rs 5,000 from a complainant for compromising a dispute between him and a co-villager.
Counter FIRs were submitted on the dispute by both parties, following which the same was compromised. However, after the compromise, the ASI was demanding a bribe from the complainant to not take action against him on the counter FIR. Finding no other means, the complainant approached the Vigilance authorities.
Based on the complaint, a trap was laid on May 22, 2025, wherein the ASI was nabbed by a team of Odisha Vigilance near compound of Tigiria Treasury office for demanding and taking undue advantage (bribe) of Rs 5,000 from the complainant.
The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of the ASI and seized in presence of witnesses. Left hand wash of Behera gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the Govt. residential quarter of Behera at Town Police Station in Dhenkanal, house at native village Nutanapatana Sahi, Hindol and Government quarter at Tigiria.
Meanwhile, the accused ASI of Tigiria Police Station has been arrested and is being forwarded to the Court.
In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No.12 date 21.05.2025 U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation.
