KIIT Loses the ‘Institution of Eminence’ Tag

Bhubaneswar (Reporters Today Bureau): The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), founded by Kandhamal MP Achyut Samanta and the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) in Tamil Nadu have lost their tag of Institution of Eminence. As these two private institutions have not met the established tag eligibility criteria, it is now being discussed by persons related to the educational sector. The eligibility criteria stated that the total net worth of the members of the sponsoring organization should be Rs 3000 crore for the existing institution and Rs 5,000 crore for the new organization.
However, these two institutions do not meet the eligibility criteria for members of the sponsoring organization. The essence of the Institution of loE is to make a global declaration or consideration of a private and public institution. According to the sponsor, the organization is a “charitable or non-profitable society” or a public trust. According to national media reports, petitions filed by VIT and KIIT show that both sponsors have land and construction as net worth.
The second and final transit of the IoE was announced in August last year, where seven private and seven government agencies were got recognition. VIT, KIIT, Amrita Bishwa Vidyadharam in Bangalore, Jamia Hamard in New Delhi, OP Jindal University in Haryana were given the recognition.
