Subarnapur, July 18: In a major drug bust, police in Odisha’s Subarnapur district seized a pickup van carrying a large quantity of ganja near Ranisarda Chhak under Tarbha police limits. The operation, conducted jointly by Tarbha and Menda police, led to the recovery of 930 packets of ganja, weighing approximately 9 quintals and 30 kilograms. The estimated market value of the contraband is said to be around ₹9 crore.
According to police sources, the vehicle was spotted speeding from the Kantamal area in neighbouring Boudh district, raising suspicions. Acting on the alert, Tarbha police initiated a chase and informed Menda outpost. The coordinated effort helped intercept the vehicle near Ranisarda Chhak.
However, before police could apprehend him, the driver of the pickup van fled the scene, taking advantage of the chaos.
The seized van and ganja packets have been taken into custody, and a thorough investigation is underway to trace the driver and uncover the source and intended destination of the illegal consignment.
Police suspect the ganja was being transported for distribution to other parts of the state or country. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
