“9 Maoists Surrender in Sukma; Rs 43 Lakh Bounty”

Sukma: In a significant development, nine hard-core Maoists, including two women, surrendered to the police on Saturday. The surrender took place in Sukma, a district bordering Malkangiri in Odisha, before Superintendent of Police Kiran Chauhan.

The surrendered Maoists had a total bounty of Rs 43 lakh on their heads. Among them, two individuals carried a reward of Rs 8 lakh each, while four others had bounties of Rs 5 lakh each. These Maoists were reportedly involved in several criminal activities, including the infamous Burkapal incident, which caused widespread fear and unrest in the region.

The move is seen as a major success for the police in their efforts to tackle insurgency in the region. The authorities have not only recovered crucial information but also hope this surrender will encourage more Maoists to abandon their path of violence.
