Husband Allegedly Kills Wife with Anesthesia; Two Arrested

Bhubaneswar: The death of a young married woman in the Bharatpur area of Bhubaneswar has sent shockwaves across the city as police revealed today that her husband allegedly murdered her by administering an overdose of anesthesia.

According to Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra, suspicions were raised when Subhashree Nayak, 27, was found dead in a locked room on October 28. An investigation was launched with the support of forensic experts, and the post-mortem report confirmed that Nayak died due to an overdose of anesthesia.

During interrogation, her husband, Pradyumna Patra, reportedly confessed to the crime. Police believe Patra’s extramarital relationships led to conflicts, which may have motivated the alleged murder. Officials say that Patra, a 24-year-old pharmacist, administered the fatal injection with help from two colleagues, Rosy Patra and Ajita Bhuyan, who have also been arrested. Patra initially went into hiding, but police tracked him through his mobile phone.

All three suspects were presented before a court today and are expected to be taken into remand for further questioning. Police indicated that they may conduct a crime scene reconstruction to strengthen the investigation.

The family of the deceased has alleged that Pradyumna Patra had a history of dowry-related abuse toward Subhashree. Her mother claimed that Patra had recently provided a written statement promising to care for her daughter and asked for her to return to him. “I thought he would treat her well, but he ended up taking her life,” said Subhashree’s mother.

Pradyumna and Subhashree had been married for four years.
