7-Year-Old Girl Drowns in Mantei River in Bhadrak

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a seven-year-old girl drowned in the Mantei River at Jagannath Prasad panchayat under Basudevpur block in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Jhili, daughter of Arjun Maiti. According to sources, Jhili had accompanied her mother to her maternal grandfather’s house in Mishrapur. While playing alone near the river in the afternoon, she accidentally slipped and fell into the water.

When the girl failed to return home, her worried family members began searching for her. After failing to locate her, they informed the local fire department.

A rescue team launched a search operation in the river and eventually recovered her body. She was rushed to the Basudevpur Community Health Centre, where doctors declared her brought dead.

The incident has left the local community in deep grief, with residents mourning the untimely death of the child.
